Hailing from Ventura, California, Andrew Watson aka Young Drew has always been surrounded by a thriving music scene and thus, grew up wanting to be an artist as well. For the past 12 years he has been rapping with his own beat and flow. But unfortunately he was not rewarded for his hard work and dedication. Now, at the age of 24, Young Drew is not only a musician but also an entrepreneur and mental health advocate.
Young Drew has made his passion his profession
Making music may seem easy but is one of those jobs that can quickly wear you out with the constant need to be innovative. Young Drew has tackled this by making his art his passion. Young Drew has proved his mettle by working with artists such as Drake, Smiley, XXXTentacion and Soulja Boy. Young Drew has also performed with rapper Tyga at the Ventura Majestic Theatre. He attended his first studio session at DMXO Recording at Santa Barbara.
Recently, Young Drew released his new song “Riders”, which has become a massive hit, even while his single “Look Straight Thru Me” is still trending on the world indie chart. However, this is not all. Coming up pretty soon are three record deals with Roc Nation, Death Row and Capitol. Young Drew also has some legendary performances lined up as he headlines events such as Kushstock Festival, Dragonia and more.
Young Drew is the founder of his own record label Jeanne Rose Ent
In today’s day and age, being a part of the music industry can be quite a tough game. With lots of new faces entering the market every year, competition has been rising. This affects independent artists the most, as the lack of a record label can make it hard to sustain market shocks and instability. Being an artist himself, Young Drew has ventured to create his own record label by the name of Jeanne Rose Ent. The label has been named after his fiance Jeanne Rose, who is also the first artist signed under Young Drew’s label.
Giving artists the platform they deserve is something Young Drew has always been passionate about. This is why apart from having his own record label, Young Drew also works as a talent manager, better known as an A&R manager. Young Drew has held a position in the A&R team for Universal Music Group for a long time and has recently been promoted. At present he is an important person in the office and a hard one to please, because he now has the direct authority to sign artists.
Young Drew has exercised his years of practice with managing artists at Jeanne Rose Ent as well. This is why within the first few months of its establishment, Jeanne Rose has been able to bag several wonderful opportunities. Take for example the fact that she had her first performance at the Bet Hip Hop awards. Young Drew has also bagged over 100k streams overnight, a nomination on the world indie chart and 20 tour dates.
Young Drew is a mental health advocate
Being the owner of an extensive platform means using it for things that deserve attention. For Young Drew, mental health is one of them. Young Drew supports this cause through his clothing label Dripression. 20% of proceeds from his clothing line are set to go to his nonprofit organisation the Young Drew Foundation. Apart from Dripression, Young Drew is also sponsored by clothing labels such as Dead Homies, White Rabbit Clothing, Sitting On Drip Clothing and many more.
Young Drew has been revolutionising the music industry, with his ready participation in all of the many aspects of it. We hope he continues to make music and influence the industry to be a better place!
